Thousand Lake Reservoir

There’s many hiking trails in Hong Kong, but some aren’t family friendly. I have been researching for kids friendly outdoor activities and came across this trail with amazing view that I want to check in with my kids, and even better, with our friends! After further discussion and route planning with friends, we are all set to go!  Where are we going?   Reservoir Islands Viewpoint (千島湖清景台) was established  in 2019 for hikers and tourists to have better view of the Thousand Islands (千島湖) also known as Tai Lam Chung Reservoir (大欖涌水塘). The reservoir has over 10 islands and hills with 4 huge dam, forming the view of “islands”.  What to pack?  With kids there are several must have items in your backpack 🎒:  ✅Ice water (put a bottle or 2 in freezer the night before) ✅Plenty of water  ✅Cake/bread/ snacks  ✅Fan  ✅Insects repellent  ✅Sunscreen/ shade/ hat How to get there?  With a bunch of mommies friends and kids buddies from different par...

Rainbow Village

A colourful village Kwong Pan Tin Tsuen (#光板田村) is a squatter village located at the mountain of Tsuen Wan. Volunteers and villagers refurnished walls and corners together, turning it into a cheerful and colourful village; it’s like the Hong Kong version of Rainbow Village.  This is a simple and easy walk up from the MTR station. The stairs are painted in rainbow colour sequences, the corners and walls have different drawings and paintings too. It’s nothing fancy but kids learnt to appreciate others artwork.  How to get there?  There are 2 buses with route passing the village, KMB bus no. 51 on the bridge of flyover and mini bus no. 80 at Chuen Loong Street. Then get off at Kwong Pan Tin Tsuen Section 2 (光板田村二段).  Once got off the bus, you’ll see the entrance of the village. The stairs and walls are painted, so you will never miss it!  Kind reminder, this is a living village, although it’s open for outsider to visit and admire the paintings, please do cont...

Yuan Pu Street Bird Park X Moon Park

Yuan Pu Street Bird Park aka The Hong Kong Bird Market is a small lane highly entertaining for kids. In the chinese culture, birds are kept as pets; where you see old men holding their cages, taking their bird for “walks”, showing off their birds singing skills. The market stands are full of birds, a varieties of them; hand crafted bamboo cages; peculiar bird food like live crickets and worms.  It’s one of our after school activity - exploring Hong Kong; be it playground, park, hiking trails, outlying islands, local spots or pop up events.  Covid-19 wasn’t a around when we went to Bird Park and Moon Park. It was a Friday, after kids nursery and kindergarten classes. We meet up at the entrance after lunch, kids were excited as always. There are many types of birds, from the cute canaries to talking parrots, common sparrows and lots of pigeons around. After Bird Park, we walked across the street, took a bus and to Moon Park.  Moon Park aka King’s Park located at Ho Man Tin,...
