Hiking : Tsuen Wan to Sha Tin

Even though we enjoying having friends around, we always make times for just the four of us. And we love hiking as a family. It is a bonding experience and allow us to exercise together. Hiking motivates kids to be active and teaches them to appreciate the nature.

Family hike is usually on a Sunday. We started at Tsuen Wan’s Shing Mun Country Park. Once arrived at the starting point, turn right and continue walking on paved road (watch out for cars), it’s anti-clockwise along the reservoir. Walk along Wilson-trail sec 7, the reservoir is on your left, until you reach a T point where your left is a bridge. Take the stairs on your right towards the paved road, then turn left to continue walking. You will be crossing a bridge, and it marks the beginning of a more challenging hike.

From the bridge, it’s mostly slopes, all the way towards the other hills to Shatin. After the first slope at a junction, there the only cubicle toilets. I suggest to take a break. There’s a signboard, continue walking towards Needles Hill. We will be taking the Shing Mun Forrest Track - Needle Hill sections. Heads up ! It’s all slopes again
😂 Keep in mind you’re going to Needles Hill direction, until you reach the pavilion with the sign “To Sha Tin Town”. Take the path next to the sign board, all the way until you reach the stairs. There’s 2 route at this point, one to Fotan and the other one to Shatin. We take the stairs down to Shatin MTR station.
Bear in mind, there’s a lot of stairs down ! We took approximately 1 hour to go down (all stairs). The first half of the stairs are toughest, without shades and it’s quite steep, kids takes time to go down steps by steps. The second half is better as it’s shaded by trees. Keep walking towards Shatin / To Fung Shan (道風山) direction. You’ll be ok paved road again in no time. Passing the Lutheran Theological Seminary. Continue walking downhill until you reach a roundabout with sign pole showing left is the way to MTR station. Keep walking for another 3-5 mins and it’s done ! ✅
* Distance: 10.4km
* Duration: 4 hours
* Difficulties: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (certain level of physical strength is required for going uphill)
* Scenic: ⭐️⭐️
* Altitudes: 430m

📍: Masks on your face are a must at all time no matter where you are as long as you are out, and sanitise accordingly and keep social distancing in mind. OR just mark this down so you could go when the whole virus thingy go away.
📍📍: Leave no trace ! Take home whatever you brought with you, even if it’s used or emptied, even when there’s garbage bins for disposal. Leave what you find and respect wildlife too!

Sai Yuen - Camping Adventure Park

Proclaim: I am not advertising for them, I am not paid to do this. This is just my review, my sharing, my experience.  Note: Mask on face at all time! Even when we are doing activities. Be safe, and don’t give a reason for these facilities to be forced to close too.   Last weekend, we took kids glamping at Sai Yuen aka the camping adventure park. It’s an outdoor adventure playground with over 11 acres of land on Cheung Chau. They offer different themes of camping areas include the Native America Teepee, African Safari Tent, Geodesic Dome and Mongolian Ger. And of course they have plenty of space where you could just bring your own tents and tools. It’s a different experience from our usual camping at public camp site.  It is private, well managed with facilities such as the cooking/ bbq areas, showers, toilets, children play area and having vending machines with snacks, drinks and even toiletries.  We took the express ferry from Central Piers to Cheung Chau. Then hop...

Be safe, and don’t give a reason for these facilities to be forced to close too.  Holiday farm is a family run, educational and interactive farm situated in Sheung Shui. It promotes green culture and environmental friendly lifestyle hence being there do make you feel closer to the nature; especially with their originality on play equipments. Last holiday, we took kids to Holiday Farm. Honestly, it’s an exciting place to be, we have a wonderful day, from 10 to 5pm 👍 Kids love everything they saw! The treehouse slides, the horses riding made with recycled materials, the barrel slides, the “carpets” slides, each of these gave so much fun and create unforgettable memories.  The activities are divided into 2 categories, the generals (include botanic gardens, boat through the pond, rickshaw, gr...
